Brief Introduction to Shanghai Red Cross Society
Founded in 1911, the Shanghai Red Cross Society is a humanitarian social relief organization with a century-long history, officially affiliated to the Red Cross Society of China.
It has well-established internal departments and two directly affiliated institutions. By the end of 2024, its network covers all 16 districts of Shanghai, with extensive grassroots organizations, group members, individual members, youth volunteers and registered volunteer teams across industries.
In compliance with national and municipal regulations, the Society performs core mandates including emergency rescue and disaster relief, humanitarian assistance, first aid training, promotion of voluntary blood donation, body and organ donation, as well as hematopoietic stem cell donation. It also develops volunteer services, organizes youth Red Cross activities, disseminates Red Cross culture and spirit, and takes part in both international and domestic humanitarian relief missions. Entrusted by the government, it also manages the municipal mutual assistance fund for the medical care of primary and secondary school students and infants.
