Food Banks Canada is the national leader in addressing food insecurity across Canada. Founded in 1987, it serves as the umbrella organization for a nationwide network of food banks and community organizations dedicated to fighting hunger.

Recent Impact

• Record Usage: In March 2024, food banks recorded over 2 million visits across Canada—the highest number in history
• Significant Increase: The 2023 report showed 1,935,911 visits in March 2023, representing a 32% increase from March 2022—the highest year-over-year increase ever reported
• Children's Support: In fiscal year 2024, delivered over 185,000 healthy food packages to children in over 200 communities
• Emergency Response: Coordinated the delivery of over 7,000,000 pounds of food to communities in response to wildfires

Funding & Distribution

• Since 2020, with support from the Government of Canada, distributed over $90 million in funding
• Provided an additional $27.5 million in food purchases transported to food security organizations nationwide

Research & Advocacy

Food Banks Canada produces the annual HungerCount report, providing critical statistics on hunger and food bank usage in Canada. The organization works on both immediate relief and long-term solutions through research and advocacy to address the root causes of hunger.
