The team will start their journey from the estate’s main entrance, moving through the lush vineyards and onto the well-marked hiking trails that Meerendal is known for. The initial part of the walk takes them through the beautifully maintained vineyards, where they can enjoy the sight of grapevines stretching out in neat rows and the fresh morning air filled with the scent of blooming flora.
As the trail ascends, the team will make their way up to the higher grounds of the estate. This part of the hike offers panoramic views of the Durbanville Hills, Table Mountain, and even the distant cityscape of Cape Town. The trail is moderately challenging, providing a good mix of gentle slopes and steeper inclines that will get the heart pumping.
The team will then pass through a section of indigenous Renosterveld, a unique type of vegetation native to the Western Cape. This area is rich in biodiversity, and hikers might spot various bird species and small wildlife along the way.
After approximately 4 kilometers, the team will reach the summit of Dorstberg, the highest point of the estate. Here, they can take a well-deserved break, enjoying the breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape. This is the perfect spot for a group photo and some light refreshments before starting the descent.
The descent back to the estate will take the team through more scenic vineyard paths and a forested area, adding variety to the hike. The final stretch of the walk brings them back to the heart of Meerendal, where they will conclude their 8-kilometer journey.
