I’m celebrating 10 years of Walk the World with Informa by raising money for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Since it’s inauguration, Walk the World has encouraged Informa colleagues around the globe to spend time together outside the office, to have fun and make an impact for local charities. Over the past 10 years, we’ve almost raised a collective £2 million for these charities – will you support me and help us raise even more?

Our New York Office on 3rd Avenue is collectively raising for the Alzheimer’s Association, raising funds to provide 24/7 care and support and advance research toward methods of prevention, treatment, and, ultimately, a cure.

Any donations are greatly appreciated and go towards the incredible work my chosen charity does.

Why Your Support Matters: The Critical Fight Against Alzheimer's Disease

The Growing Challenge of Alzheimer's

Alzheimer's disease represents one of the most significant health challenges of our time. As I prepare to participate in Walk the World New York 2025 supporting the Alzheimer's Association, I want to share why this cause deserves our urgent attention and support:

  • An estimated 6.9 million Americans age 65 and older are currently living with Alzheimer's disease
  • This number is projected to grow dramatically as our population ages
  • Without effective interventions, the economic impact is staggering - projected to reach $1.1 trillion by 2050 in direct care costs alone

The Financial Burden

The cost of Alzheimer's extends far beyond medical care:

  • The total lifetime cost of care for a person with dementia is estimated at $412,936 (in 2022 dollars)
  • 70% of these costs are borne by family caregivers through unpaid care and out-of-pocket expenses
  • In 2022, approximately 11.3 million family and unpaid caregivers provided an estimated 16 billion hours of assistance valued at approximately $271.6 billion

Progress Through Research

There is hope through research, and every dollar makes a difference:

  • Federal funding for Alzheimer's research has increased seven-fold since 2011
  • The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is now investing as much as $3.8 billion annually in Alzheimer's and dementia research
  • The Alzheimer's Association is currently investing over $320 million in more than 1,000 research projects across 54 countries

Why I'm Walking

While I don't have a personal connection to Alzheimer's disease, I recognize the profound impact it has on millions of families. By participating in Walk the World New York 2025, I'm joining Informa's global effort to support critical research that could lead to breakthroughs in prevention, treatment, and ultimately a cure.

How You Can Help

Your donation, no matter the size, contributes to vital research and support services:

  • $25 can help provide educational materials to families navigating a new diagnosis
  • $100 can support participation in a support group for people living with early-stage Alzheimer's
  • $500 can help fund cutting-edge research projects seeking new treatments
