About the charity
My Stuff Bags is right down the street from our Agoura Hills Office. It was co-founded by two locals who wanted to help children in crisis.
America’s Forgotten Tragedy
Since 1998, the My Stuff Bags Foundation has been addressing the needs of an often forgotten group of American children – those who must leave everything behind when they are rescued from abuse, neglect or abandonment and enter foster care, or who must flee with their mothers to the safety of a battered women’s home. Tragically, these children enter shelters with little more than the clothes on their backs and little hope for their future.
Agencies that care for these frightened kids frequently lack the resources to provide anything beyond food and safe shelter. And the few possessions these children might gather along the way are often lugged around in trash bags, leading to the demeaning label, “trash-bag kids.”
You can help give them something to hold on to…their very own My Stuff Bag.
My Stuff Bags are bright blue individual duffels filled with brand new, age- and gender-appropriate toys, books, a stuffed animal, school supplies, clothing, personal toiletries, and a warm, often hand-made “security” blanket – all theirs to keep. Packed with items they desperately need as they adjust to their new surroundings, My Stuff Bags provide things to do and to hold during this difficult time.
Perhaps most importantly, because most items in a My Stuff Bag are donated by caring people nationwide, and the duffels are packed by a core of loyal volunteers, the children learn that lots of people really do care about them.
The My Stuff Bags Foundation is the only organization providing rescued children nationwide with new belongings in duffels that they can keep.
Please help us to show these kids that they haven’t been forgotten, and that they are indeed worthy of love, through the gift of My Stuff Bags
Here is a message from President and CEO Janeen Holmes:
What can a My Stuff Bag full of toys, clothing, books and other items do for a sad and lonely child who has nothing? It can bring a smile to help dry the tears. It can bring things to play with and do when before there was only boredom. Most importantly, these bright blue duffels offer abused and neglected children the realization that they’re not alone, and that many people really do care about them. I’ve seen this immediate impact, and have read the many grateful letters from social service workers and even the kids themselves, saying how much receiving a My Stuff Bag meant to them during a dark and fearful time in their lives.
If you have previously donated funds or new children’s items to the My Stuff Bags Foundation, thank you. Your continued support and concern for these kids is enabling us to keep sending the duffels to children in need across the United States. If you’re new to My Stuff Bags, we need your help! The generosity and compassion of people like you makes it possible for us to provide new “stuff”, and most importantly, hope for a brighter future, to children who often enter shelters and foster care with nothing more than the clothes on their backs.
Please help us to continue giving the warmth and comfort of new belongings – and new hope – to children in crisis across America.
The My Stuff Bags Foundation provides new belongings, comfort and hope to thousands of children each year who must be rescued from abuse, neglect and abandonment across the United States. By rallying widespread individual and corporate involvement through our unique “My Stuff Bags” program, we address the immediate physical and emotional needs of rescued children, and help support the agencies caring for them.
The My Stuff Bags Foundation’s ultimate goal is to provide a My Stuff Bag filled with new belongings to each of the nearly 300,000 children each year who must enter crisis shelters and foster care with nothing of their own.
