On June 14th, Informa’s Vancouver office of 18, plus Monty and Martini – the office dogs – will begin our walk from our offices on Georgia heading straight for the tree lined streets of the West End – one of Vancouver’s most established neighbourhoods dotted with 3 story walk up apartment buildings and the amazing Second and Third beaches. We’ll pass by Nelson Park and make a short stop at our Charity of Choice for this year, Covenant House, where we will meet the Development Officer for Community Giving and hear about the meaningful impact Covenant House has in helping homeless youths. We’ll then walk directly to False Creek and meander along the shoreline, past Yaletown condos, pubs, restaurants and boutiques. Further along, we will walk past the city’s Buckminster Fuller inspired Geodesic Dome that houses “Science World” and continue past the transformed community of “Olympic Village”, once the home for thousands of athletes for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. We’ll complete our 8 km walk at one of the city’s most popular attractions, “Granville Island Public Market”, where we will relax and enjoy beer and bites at Bridges Restaurant – named appropriately for its underbelly views of the girders of two of the city’s most significant bridges.
We will celebrate our walk and time together at Bridges Restaurant at the Granville Island Public Market.
Covenant House is a shelter and home for many of Vancouver’s street youth aged 16 – 24 – those who have been forced from their homes; and those who have aged out of foster care. Covenant House needs our support to run the many programs that support mental health services and drug addiction programs. We felt this year that a program that relates to housing is in alignment with a number of our products, including Buildex Vancouver and the Vancouver Real Estate Forum. The idea sprung from soliciting input from some of our Real Estate Forum participants and what charity connects with their own business model. Please find out more about Covenant House at www.covenanthousebc.org.
Cash donations can be made on the walk day, or via the Covenant House website.
